A NOTE ON THE BAND:
In 1997, as the defense industry consolidated, Texas Instruments sold its defense business to Raytheon for $2.95 billion. Shortly thereafter Raytheon acquired Texas Instruments’ Defense Systems & Electronics Group. Prior to the purchase, DSEG’s greatest competition within the field of Mercury Cadmium Telluride detection and Infrared Systems belonged to Hughes Aircraft. When Raytheon purchased Hughes Aircraft from General Motors they were forced by the US government to divest themselves of a duplicate capability. The company chose to keep both, in turn forcing these former rivals to work together. Texas Instruments is Andrew Jordan Miller and his brother, Nicolas.
